Royal Bank of Scotland Charity of the Year 2013-2014

East Ayrshire Carers Centre has been chosen as the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Invoice Finance Scotland department’s Charity of the Year 2013 - 2014.

This means that RBS staff will volunteer to work with the Centre over the coming year and among other roles will help to maintain gardens, design websites and lend a hand decorating new premises in Cumnock, as well as donating gifts for young carers at Christmas.  Representatives of the bank have already visited Dalmellington House to formally acknowledge the year long initiative – the highlight of which will be a charity gala dinner in October which raised £27,000 to provide support for centres in East Ayrshire. While young carers have benefitted from the new partnership when the bank donated more than 70 Easter eggs for them to enjoy.

Jane Smith, East Ayrshire Carers Centre CEO, said “For some of the young carers, this was the first time they had been given an Easter egg and they were very grateful to the bank.  This is an exciting time for us as the Royal Bank of Scotland will not only offer this kind of support but will help us to improve the areas of our organisation that we simply can’t afford to focus our funding on”.

Clydesdale Bank Spirit of the Community Award

Clydesdale Bank Spirit of the Community Awards support projects that advance financial education, improve employability and promote environmental protection or improvement. In recognition of Clydesdale Bank’s 175th anniversary this year £175,000 was donated to local communities through the Awards.

Three winners were selected in each category, each securing a funding boost of £10,000. An additional five winners in each category were then awarded £5,000. A further £10,000 was awarded to one charity whose contribution to the community the judges felt was outstanding meaning that one individual organisation received £20,000.

We were delighted to accept the top award receiving £20,000 for East Ayrshire Carers Centre.

David Thorburn, Chief Executive of Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: “Clydesdale Bank’s Spirit of the Community Awards aims to recognise and support the vital contribution that voluntary and charitable organisations make to their local communities. It has been inspiring to see the great work which is being done at grass-roots level across the country.

Community Planning Award 2013

In April 2013 East Ayrshire Carers Centre was delighted to be recognised by East Ayrshire Council for their work done helping to transform the lives of young people when given a Lifelong Learning Award at the Community Planning Awards in Kilmarnock’s Grange Academy.

The award recognised the success of the Alpha Venture Employability Service which has been running from Dalmellington House since 2009 and has been a huge success.  Many young people who left school with no qualifications and few prospects have now found sustainable employment thanks to the great work being done there.  In the past year, the scheme has supported 125 young people; with 36 gaining employment, 25 moving into training and 61 going into further education.
