What is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is someone who looks after a member of their family who is ill, frail, disabled, suffers from mental ill health or a substance misuse problem.

Being a Young Carer can be hard sometimes:

If this applies to you, then the East Ayrshire Carers Centre is here to help…

East Ayrshire Carers Centre offers one-to-one and group support to our young carers. We run age specific groups every week at our centres in Cumnock, Kilmarnock and Dalmellington. You can come along and meet other young carers who know and understand how you feel. Come and socialise over a nice home cooked meal and most importantly have fun!

What is a Young Carers worker and how can they help me?

A Young Carers Worker is someone that you, as a Young Carer, can talk to. They can listen and support you in dealing with any problems you are going through. They can introduce you to Young Carers groups and encourage you and your family to take part in centre activities. There are also other people who you can share your problems with like a guidance teacher at school or a social worker.

If you think that you are a Young Carer  and wish to get involved in the service then  contact us at Kilmarnock on 01563 571533, Cumnock  on 01290 426404 or Dalmellington House on 01292 550717.
