PPE for Unpaid Carers

PPE for Unpaid Carers

by Cameron Thomson

As you may already be aware, personal protective equipment (PPE) is being made available for unpaid carers in Scotland. Not every caring situation will require PPE and priority is being given to protecting those who are at highest risk of infection. PPE may be available to carers providing personal care where they are unable to access it through their normal routes. Personal care can include tasks such as washing and dressing. Priority may also be given carers, or the people they care for, if they fall into one of the following categories:

· caring situations where either the carer or the person with care needs is shielded;

· higher risk groups such as over 70s;

· those with symptoms of coronavirus;

· where the carer is working outside of the home;

If you fall into one of these categories and if you require PPE you will be able to access it by contacting us on 01563 571533. We are open from 9-5 on Mondays to Thursday and 9-4 on Fridays. Full information and guidance is available through the Scottish Government here - https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-unpaid-carers-providing-personal-care/pages/overview/

PPE correct usage

Many unpaid carers in Scotland will be familiar with wearing PPE, but as infection control has never been more important than now, this short video from Health Protection Scotland is a useful reminder on how to put it on and take it off safely - https://vimeo.com/393951705
